St. Louis Park Artwalk in the Park
An outdoor exhibit of original artwork by local creatives in parks and along trails and community spaces in St. Louis Park—promoting creativity, enlivening public spaces, and connecting community with our natural environment.
2024 Summer Artwalk: Kindness in the Community!
The Artwalk In the Park is back for summer 2024, and this year’s theme is “Kindness in the Community.”
We know that true kindness is so powerful!
We also know that true kindness can be rare. And that in our world today, we can use more kindness, care, and compassion towards other people.
As part of the 2024 Artwalk in the Park, we're asking community members to imagine what kindness in our St. Louis Park community looks like in the form of your original artwork. This can be as literal or as abstract as you like, as long as it promotes kindness.
Some prompts you might consider as you're making your art board include...
What is an act of kindness you've witnessed or experienced in the community?
Who in the community embodies what it means to be kind?
What is a kind act that often goes unrecognized or unnoticed?
What does being kind look like in your home, your background, your specific community?
How can kindness thrive even in difficult or challenging times?
What do you see in the local community? What do you want to see?

Fall 2020 Pilot Project
Local artists and creatives designed and painted original artworks, in the form of mini-murals on plywood, that went on traveling display to some of St. Louis Park's beautiful nature trails and parks. This outdoor exhibit was designed in 2020 as a pilot project during a pandemic to provide youth and artists with a sense of community connection and an opportunity for personal creative expression, while bringing artwork to the outdoors, where neighbors can safely enjoy the display.
The parks for 2020’s pilot project were Wolfe Park’s Wolfe Lake trail, the Westwood Hills Nature Center, and Aquila Park/Cedar Lake Trail. The 40 painted boards spanned a wide range of themes and subject matter, reflecting the varied emotions and perspectives experienced during this challenging time. The artwork was displayed for six weeks in total, two weeks at each of the three selected ADA-accessible trails in different parts of the city.
All participating artists received a blank piece of plywood, a set of acrylic paints and brushes to use for the project. Artists ranged from youth to seniors, including both experienced and amateur artists, as well as families who created the artwork together. Middle school youth from The Connection, a Perspectives, Inc. summer program, also created artwork in response to the theme of resilience, which they have been discussing throughout the pandemic and in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and ensuing Twin Cities uprisings. The youth were able to express their feelings and experience through an artwork and share it with the broader community.
